Skills and Responsibilities:

The position is based in our North Vancouver or US (Elko, Reno, Tucson) offices, and offers the opportunity for professional growth and skill development in:

  • Geotechnical data collection (core logging, field mapping, photogrammetry)

  • Downhole geotechnical and hydrogeological instrumentation, data processing and review

  • Structural analysis of surface and subsurface structural data and kinematic stability assessments of bench, interramp and overall slope stability

  • Development of geotechnical rock mass models and statistical block modeling of geomechanically parameters

  • Conceptual, prefeasibility, and feasibility open pit and waste dump slope design studies

  • Optimization of open pit slope and waste dump designs

  • Limit equilibrium stability analyses and detailed numerical modeling assessments using computer programs such as Slide2, PLAXIS, RS2, UDEC and FLAC

  • Rockfall modeling assessments to define optimal catch berm widths for rockfall protection

  • Design of waste dumps and ancillary structures (underdrains, sedimentation ponds, runout berms)

  • Processing and evaluation of prism, radar, and inclinometer slope monitoring data

  • Slope failure prediction (time of failure and runout distance), failure back analysis, and forensic studies for open pits and waste dumps

  • Mine closure planning

  • Managing work schedules and controlling budgets while working within a multi-disciplinary team

  • Report writing and presentation skills

Qualifications

  • Degree in geological or geotechnical engineering from a recognized university

  • Previous relevant geotechnical consulting and design experience in open pit mines would be beneficial.

  • Strong technical, communication and problem-solving skills

  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication and report writing skills

  • Willingness to travel domestically, internationally, and to remote locations

  • Eligibility for professional registration (e.g., E.I.T. in Canada)

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Experience with commercial computer software including Microsoft Office

  • Experience with various geotechnical analysis and modeling software (e.g., Slide2, Dips, Rocfall, RocPlane, AutoCAD, etc.) would be an asset

  • Understanding and exposure to regulatory bodies with respect to planning and permitting
